The Israel Cabinet today met to hear a report from Minister Moshe Sharett on the latest developments in Israel’s fight at the United Nations to break Egypt’s blockade of the Suez Canal.
(On a U.N. radio program tonight, Egyptian delegate Mahmoud Fawzi Bey said that Egypt will not accept any Security Council decision on the Suez Canal blockade which it does not consider wise, Just or in conformity with the U.N. Charter.)
Mr. Sharett, who is scheduled to leave for the United States in the middle of next month, also outlined the position taken by him with regard to the U.N. Invitation to an Israel-Arab peace conference to start in Paris on Sept. 10.
The Foreign Minister reported on the latest communication received from Lt. Gen. William E. Riley, Chief of the U.N. truce staff, regarding the latter’s com plaint against Israel in connection with the Huleh situation. Mr. Sharett informed the Cabinet that he told Gen. Riley two weeks ago that the Israel Government is ready to discuss the complaint in an effort to settle the difficulties, but no reply has yet been received by the Ministry.
