The situation created by Transjordan’s annexation of the Arab part of Palestine was discussed today at a meeting of the Israel Cabinet. A report on the military aspects of the situation was submitted by Army Chief of Staff Brigadier Yigal Yadin, while Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett reported on the political situation.
King Abdullah’s annexation of the Arab part of Palestine will subject the Israel Government to a sharp attack from both wings of the opposition within the Knesset, the Israel Parliament, it was disclosed last night. Both the left-wing Mapam Party and the right-wing Herut are demanding a full-dress debate on this development. The Mapam assails the Israel Government’s policy as having encouraged Abdullah to take this step.
