The Israel Cabinet will hold an extraordinary meeting in the course of this week to discuss the nationalization of the Suez Canal by Egypt and its economic and political implications for Israel as well as for the security of the Jewish State, it was indicated here today.
At today’s meeting of the Cabinet, Foreign Minister Golda Mayer reported on various developments in Israel’s foreign policy. The meeting was presided over by Levi Eskil. Acting Premier while Premier David Ben Guion is on a brief vacation.
The right-wing Heart party today demanded an emergency session of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs and Security Committee with the participation of Mr. Ben Guion and Mrs. Mayer to discuss the situation which has developed as a result of Egyptian confiscation of the Suez Canal Company. The Israel Parliament adjourned last week for its summer recess and is not scheduled for a regular meeting again until after the High Holidays.
