Premier David Ben Gurion will officially submit his resignation to the Israel Cabinet next Sunday following the completion of the present negotiations between his party–the Mapai Party–and leaders of other parties for the composition of the coalition government, it was indicated here today.
Mapai leaders met today with leaders of the General Zionists and will meet tomorrow with leader of the left-wing Mapam Party. A “quadruple” meeting which, in addition to representatives of these three groups will also include leaders of the Mizrachi movement, will then take place later in the week. It is expected that before the week is over the negotiations among all groups will lead to an agreement on the composition of the Cabinet and permit Mr. Ben Gurion to resign formally next Sunday and present his resignation to the President on Monday.
In an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, President Itzhak Ben Zvi today said: “I personally want, and the interests of the state demand, that the broadest possible coalition government be formed to include all creative and responsible forces in the country.”
