Israel charged a man with dual Australian-Israeli citizenship with offering to spy for Iran. According to the indictment, Mark Eden went to the Iranian Embassy in Cyprus in June 1996 and handed a clerk his Australian passport with a note inside that read: “I am an Israeli soldier and would like to work for your government.” Embassy officials told him several days later that they were not interested in his services, the indictment said.
