The mysterious disappearance of an Italian vessel under charter to an Israeli corporation was reported here today. It is feared that the vessel may have been sunk or captured in the Red Sea.
The vessel, the S.S. Maria Antonia, was en route from the East African port of Massawa and was scheduled to arrive at the Israeli port of Eilath, on the Gulf of Aqaba. All attempts to contact the vessel have failed. It left the African port on December 25 with a cargo of 121 tons of canned meat and 40 tons of hides.
