Israel exported more that seven million cases of citrus fruit, despite previous calculations that exports this year would fall below expectations. Announcement of the figures was made here at yesterday’s “Citrus Day” celebration by Zvi Isaacson, director of the Citrus Marketing Board. The day was marked with celebrations and the awarding of prizes in various categories of citrus production and marketing,
Twenty countries received the seven million cases, headed by Britain, which took half of all exports, according to Mr. Isaacson. Other figures mentioned by him at the fete, which was Jointly sponsored by Israel Minister of Agriculture Peretz, and Naftali, were that the citrus industry provided 3,500,000 working days annually, and that citrus by-products production had reached new highs–4,998 tons of extracts, 2,000 tons of processed juices, 1,500 tons of natural juices, and thousands of tons of preserves.
