While most of the Israel press today editorially treated the Israel-German reparations pact with restraint and stressed its economic significance for the Jewish State, the Communist daily Kol Ham, and the right-wing Herut violently assailed the treaty.
The Communist organ asserted that the pact had been signed by Israel “on orders of the Washington warmongers.” The Herut paper appeared with a heavy black border around its front page and the heading, “The Deed Has Been Done.” It printed photographs of Nazi death chambers and concentration camps.
