The Israel delegation to the United Nations has submitted a letter to the President of the Security Council, calling to his attention “the serious deterioration of the security situation along the Israel-Jordan border,” it was revealed here today.
The document cites a total of 101 violations of the General Armistice Agreement occurring since unconditional cease-fire assurances were given to Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold by the Jordan Government last April 26.
Israeli casualties during that period, the letter said, were 7 killed and 6 wounded. The communication went on to declare that the frequency and nature of the attacks makes it evident that “they are either the result of deliberate planning by the Jordan authorities or that they are organized and executed with their knowledge and connivance.” The letter did not ask for any formal Council action but requested the President to circulate it among all Council members.
