Secret plans for the development of hydroelectric power and water resources by harnessing the Jordan and Yarkon Rivers have been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and an American engineer, John L. Savage, it was learned here today.
It was reported that the government plans to finance the entire scheme by private loans raised in the United States. It is hoped that the project, which still awaits final government approval, will solve the acute water shortage in Galilee and will partially alleviate the same problem in the Negev.
(In London it was reported today that Tran Jordan is planning to irrigate 75,000 acres of the Jordan Valley at a cost of $28,000,000 to $52,000,000. The report also stated that the Transjordan Government has employed a firm of British irrigation engineers who are already surveying the ground.)
