Legislation providing the maximm penalty for Nazi war criminals and collaborators who committed crimes against humanity as defined by the international war crimes tribunal at Nuremberg was last night sent to committee by the Israel Parliament.
The legislation provides for the same punishment as the crime of murder. At this time the punishment is death, but a movement is under way in Israel to abolish capital punishment.
The Knesset also heard a report, asking its approval of a plan which would permit the reorganization of the Palestine Potash Company on a basis which would give Israelis majority control of the enterprise and the Israel Government a share in the corporation. The Parliament also discussed the government’s three-month interim budget request.
