Shimon Peress, director general of the Israel Defense Ministry, arrived here today from Paris to consult with Israeli Ambassador Eliahu Elath and and officials of his department. He will remain until Saturday when he will fly to the United States.
It is believed that Mr. Peress, who is reported to be canvassing the Western Powers for arms for the Israeli defense forces, will not approach British officials or concerns but will discuss with Ambassador Elatl alone the “possibilities” of receiving British weapons and will hear explanations of the British general policy in this respect. He is believed interested in heavy armaments and naval warfare weapons.
Some observers here believe that under the present circumstances the British might agree to sell on a cash basis equipment which is urgently needed by the Israeli forces.
