Israeli spokesmen today denied Syrian charges that Israeli troops are being concentrated opposite the Syrian border. They characterized these charges as “deliberate fabrications” designed to serve Syrians war of nerves against Israel.
(Charges that Israel, Britain and France are massing troops along the Syrian and Jordanian borders and now preparing for “immediate attack” were made in the General Assembly yesterday by Zeiniddine, chairman of the Syrian Delegation. He demanded that the Assembly give the “danger” of aggression immediate attention. A British spokesman denied immediately that there are any British troops on either the Jordanian or Syrian borders. He asserted flatly that there are no British troops in Israel.)
The Israeli spokesman here also denied the allegation that French pilots flying French planes had aided Israel’s Sinai Peninsula campaign. Neither the French Air Force nor any other French or foreign forces participated in the Sinai operation and reports to the contrary are “devoid of the truth.” a Foreign Ministry spokesman said. “Such reports only served the interests of groups who wish to confuse the true nature of Israel’s operations in the Sinai desert.” he added.
