Israel Denies Syrian Charges of Military Advances; Labels Them Propaganda Offensive

The Israeli Government today received through the United Nations mediator’s headquarters here a Syrian complaint that Israeli forces ####e advanced in some sectors of the Israeli-Syrian front.

An official spokesman here immediately denied the charges, asserting that ###y were part of a special political offensive designed to coincide with the opening #### Israeli-Syrian armistice talks. He recalled that the Syrians were still in occupation of several points on Israeli territory which the U.N. had ordered them to evacuee several months ago.

Joseph Sprinzak, Speaker of the Israeli Knesseth, will be Acting President #### Israel during the absence from the country of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who is scheduled #### leave by plane for the United States tomorrow. His departure, originally scheduled for yesterday, was delayed when his plane developed engine trouble.

Eight policemen who served as supernumeraries under the Palestine Mandatory government and who were among a group of such officers discharged by the Israeli Government in a reorganization move today occupied a section of the central police station here. They said they were staging a sit-down strike until they have been afforded an opportunity to be heard by a public commission.
