Israel reacted Tuesday to news of Algerian participation in last Saturday’s Suez Canal battle by filing a complaint in the Security Council. The official Algerian news agency announced Monday that Algerian troops had been in the canal zone during the Israeli-Egyptian fighting and had participated without suffering any casualties. In a letter sent to the Security Council, Israel’s UN Ambassador Yosef Tekoah said “this information is particularly grave in view of the fact that the Algerian Government, despite its participation in the hostilities of June, 1967 has ignored and continues to reject the Security Council resolution on the cease-fire and that Government on its own admission pursues an active role in military operations against Israel.”
