Amon Keren, secretary of the Israel Legation in Bucharest, was today declared by the Rumanian Government as persona non-grata, and ordered to leave Rumania, it was learned here this afternoon. It is understood that the Israel Foreign Ministry will summon the Rumanian Minister in Israel tomorrow to present Israel’s protest and refute the charges levelled against Mr. Keren.
The Israel Cabinet today devoted its entire session to problems concerning the absorption of immigrants from Rumania and other East European countries. Different members of the Cabinet reported on the problems faced in their respective fields, and the progress being made to cope with these problems.
Labor Minister Mordecai Namir reported on the employment situation and the housing of the immigrants. Minister of Agriculture Kadish Luz reported on the possibilities of settling the newcomers in farm occupations. Minister of Education Zalman Arrane reported on the need of additional classrooms, and on the swift pace with which the children of the Rumanian immigrants adapt themselves to the schools in Israel.
