Israel Diplomat Ratifies Genocide Pact at Ceremony at United Nations Headquarters

Arthur Lourie, Israel Consul General in New York and the Jewish state’s alternate representative to the United Nations, this afternoon deposited here Israel’s instrument of ratification of the U.N. convention on the prevention and punishment of genocide. The ceremony took place in the office of A.H. Foller, principal director of the Department of Legal Affairs of the U.N.

Israel is the eighth country to ratify the convention, the others being: Australia, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Iceland, Norway and Panama. The convention will come into force on the 90th day following the date of deposit of the 20th instrument of ratification.
