Israel charge d’affaires Moshe Keren discussed the world situation, including the Korean crisis, with Assistant Secretary of State George C. McGhee at a meeting late last night which lasted 70 minutes.
Mr. Keren did not divulge the exact nature of the talks, but it is believed they touched on the issue of arms shipments to the Near East in view of the tense world situation. Mr. Keren said that no decision has been reached with regard to the sending of Israel troops to join the United Nations forces in Korea.
Lebanese Minister to the United States, Charles Malik, today lodged a protest with the State Department against Israel, declaring that a Lebanese airliner was attacked by an Israel fighter plane on Monday over the Israel-Lebanon frontier area.
The Lebanese diplomat called the incident “regrettable.” Upon leaving the State Department, he told reporters that George C. McGhee, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, “was emphatic in expressing genuine concern” over the incident.
