The State Department disclosed today that the United States directly informed Israel of American opposition to the Israeli annexation of Jerusalem both before and after the annexation.
State Department spokesman Robert McCloskey said the Government’s views had been conveyed to Israel both in Tel Aviv and to the Israeli ambassador in Washington. He declined to discuss the matter further and referred newsmen to previous statements by the White House and State Department.
