Israel Does Not Intend to Sever Relations with Soviet Satellites

Israel it not contemplating breaking off diplomatic relations with Czechoslovakia and Poland, Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett declared here today in a press conference broadcast over the government radio.

The Minister revealed that, for the time being, the Israel Government will not nominate a Minister to replace Dr. Arieh Kubowi, who was denounced by both the Prague and Warsaw Governments to which he was accredited.

Meanwhile, the Polish legation here has announced that it will give no more information to Israelis about Jews living in Poland. The statement was made in reply to a local attorney who sought to establish the whereabouts of one of his clients in Poland.

The Jewish Agency said today that it is ready to pay “the total cost” of emigration to Israel of all Jews who can escape from behind the Iron Curtain.

The Mapam Party newspaper Al Hamishmar today refused to publish a regular weekly, column by Dr. Itzhak Gruenbaum, a regular contributor, because the article contained a strong attack on Moscow. Dr. Gruenbaum is reported to have threatened to discontinue his weekly columns unless his current article is published without editorial comment.
