Dr. Mordecai Kamrat, consultant on adult education for the Israel Ministry of Education and specialist in Hebrew language teaching for adults, arrived here to acquaint American educators with his teaching methods and to set up in the United States intensive seminars for Hebrew and allied subjects. Such seminars are known in Israel as Ulpanim.
Dr. Kamrat, who is visiting the United States at the invitation of the department of education and culture of the Jewish Agency, established the first Ulpan in Jerusalem in 1949, at a time when mass immigration threatened to turn Israel into a veritable tower of Babel. Today, scores of Ulpanim, employing methods developed by Dr. Kamrat, exist In Israel. “Everybody, even those who do not know the alphabet, can learn Hebrew in under 100 hours,” Dr. Kamrat declared In a statement here today.
