The special mixed Israeli-Egyptian armistice commission met today under the chairmanship of Gen. William E. Riley, U.N. Chief of Staff for Palestine, and discussed the question of Egypt’s blockade of the Suez Canal and its removal of Israel-bound consignments from ships passing through the Canal.
An official communique issued after the meeting said that the discussions were adjourned until further legal investigation is completed. Gen. Riley must report to the U.N. Security Council not later than Feb. 17 on the success or failure of the discussions.
An Israel military spokesman today declared that Egypt’s action in blockading the Suez Canal for Israel is a hostile act “infringing upon the freedom of the seas.” The Israel representative at today’s parley was Lt. Col. Yoshafat Harakabi.
