The special Israel-Egyptian mixed committee which was set up under the armistice agreement to consider appeals from decisions of the Mixed Armistice Commission met near Gaza yesterday for the first time in three years.
Israel delegates proposed that since most of the 29 appeals by both sides were some three years old and outdated they should be dropped. The Egyptians demurred. Whereupon the Israelis, who regarded the Egyptian refusal to drop the cases as political propaganda, unilaterally dropped all Israeli appeals.
The Egyptian claims were then considered. One was postponed for next week, one was rejected and one was resolved after Israel agreed to a re-wording of a MAC resolution of 1951 condemning Egypt for a border violation. At that point the meeting recessed for a week.
