The Israeli Embassy here, in a sharply-worded statement, has accused the Italian Communist Party organ, Unita, of following a policy of “perpetual defamation against the State of Israel” and of revealing “an anti-Semitic character.” The embassy said that it did not intend to deny the lies which appeared daily in the Communist organ but was making “a formal denial” of the charge published by the paper that Israel used poison gas in its military operations. The charge, it said, was “a lie fabricated by the Arab propaganda machine and accepted by its spokesman in Italy.”
