Special police security officers were guarding the Israel Embassy here today after Embassy officials had received bombing threats presumably emanating from the O.A.S., the secret French underground opposed to independence for Algeria.
The Israel Embassy is located in the heart of Paris. The threats to blow up the headquarters of the Israel Mission were reported to the police as soon as they were received, and special security squads were assigned by the police immediately to guard the building.
Meanwhile, the F.L.N., the Moslem rebel movement favoring Algerian independence, has addressed an appeal for support to Algerian Jews in France as well as in Algeria. Leaflets asking Jews to join the ranks of the F.L.N. were widely distributed here last night.
The leaflets, addressed to “Algerian Jews,” bore the identification of F.L.N. army headquarters. The appeal claimed that the Algerian settlers belonging to the C.A.S. are “the very same people who, yesterday, under the Vichy regime, were the Nazis’ collaborators.”
Recalling the murders of Doctor Cohen and William Levy in Algiers, and that of the Setif Jewish community president, Zermati, the Moslem tract concluded: “Jewish compatriots, many Jews are in our ranks. Some have been arrested for their action on behalf of the Algerian cause. Algerian independence is near, and independent Algeria will need you. You will also need it, as it is your country.”
In Algeria, strife involving Jews continued today. A Jewish merchant was killed in Oran by a Moslem, and infuriated Jews responded by setting fire to a Moslem shop, it was reported from Oran.
