A spokesman for the Israel Embassy today commented on published reports that Ambassador Eban may resign by stating that “there are no early plans for any ambassadorial change.”
The Embassy spokesman said “reports published in the press about Ambassador Eban’s personal plans are distinctly premature. No early change or announcement of change is to be expected in connection with the Ambassador’s responsibilities and functions.” He referred to reports that Mr. Eban was resigning to return to Israel to seek election to the Knesset next August on the Mapai Party slate.
