The Finance Committee of Parliament was told today that by the end of this year 220,000 tourists will have visited Israel and that this figure should increase to 450,000 by 1968.
The data was reported by Teddy Kollek, chairman of the Israel Government Tourist Corporation. He also said that foreign currency income from tourism was expected to double from $45,000,000 to $90,000,000 annually in the same period.
In the past six months, he said, the number of tourists grew by 20,000 compared with the corresponding period in 1962. Pilgrim traffic increased by 33 percent, he added, stressing the importance of maintaining arrangements for low cost group flights to Israel.
