Levi Eshkol, Israel’s Finance Minister, arrived in New York today aboard an El Al Israel Airlines plane for a special three-day meeting of 450 leaders of the Israel bond drive in the United States and Canada. Mr. Eshkol has made a special trip to the United States to present a report on Israel’s financial needs for economic development, and discuss plans for the launching of a new issue of State of Israel bonds to be inaugurated here early this year.
Jewish leaders from various communities in the United States and Canada will take part in the three-day conference, which starts this Friday. The conference has been called to develop plans for the Israel Bond campaign in 1959 as a key instrument in Israel’s program of economic development, particularly in the light of the resumption of substantial immigration from Eastern Europe.
