Israel and France signed an agreement here this weekend providing for the laying of an 1,800-mile-long underwater telephone cable between Israel and the southern coast of France.
Yeshayahu Lavie, director general of the Ministry of Posts, who announced the agreement on the $17,000,000 project, said today that the phone link which will begin operating in 1968, will provide speedy and improved service between Israel and most parts of the world. The Ministry of Posts will hold 60 percent of the shares of a joint French-Israel company established to carry out the project.
