Aluf Meir Amit has been appointed chief of Israeli intelligence, replacing Aluf Chaim Henzog, it was announced here yesterday. Aluf Herzog, who served as intelligence chief for two and one-half years, will leave shortly for a lecture tour of the United States and a number of Asian countries.
Aluf Amit, 40, who assumed his new post today, was a battalion commander during Israel’s War of Liberation. He recently spent some time in the United States for treatment of an injury suffered during a parachute exercise. During his stay in the United States, he completed a course of study in administration.
