Official negotiations between the Palestine Potash Company and the Israel Government concerning the future of the Dead Sea mineral concession held by the company began this morning.
Representatives of the company and of the government met today and will continue their deliberations next week. In the meantime, experts from both sides will scrutinize every detail of the existing agreement under which the company is exploiting the Dead Sea resources. The experts will also examine the proposals submitted by the company and by the government on the fate of the concession.
Merger of the Jerusalem Electric Corporation and the Palestine Electric Corporation is now being negotiated, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today. Under proposed plans, Palestine Electric will acquire the shares of the Jerusalem company. The merger would enable provision of additional electric power to Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Electric Corporation’s concession covers the Old City of Jerusalem. Ramallah and Bethlehem, all of which are now in territory of the Kingdom of Jordan. Disposition of the concessionary rights in these Arab areas would also be covered in the proposed agreement.
