A 24-year-old Arab was appointed by the Minister of the interior today as District Officer of Nazareth. Nazzer Naashif is the first Arab to hold this position since the establishment of Israel and is one of the youngest district officers in the country.
Under the Israeli administrative set-up, the District Officer is the chief assistant of the District Commissioner who is the top representative of the central government in each of the country’s six districts.
Plans for the establishment of eight new agricultural settlements In the Galilee, in areas heavily populated by Arabs, are being completed here by the settlement department of the Jewish Agency, it was learned today. The creation of the new settlements is believed to be part of a plan for Intermixing Jewish and Arab settlers. Already, an entirely new Jewish section has been established in the previously all-Arab city of Nazareth.
