The Prime Minister’s office today announced that its planning division has prepared an elaborate program for the building of towns in Israel on the principle of garden cities.
Housing units to accommodate about 6,000 people will be established. Each neighborhood will be virtually independent socially and culturally. The various units will be linked administratively and will constitute a new type of town.Each unit will maintain its own school and health facilities. Light industry of a co-operative character will probably be established near such units, the announcement said.
Fishing villages of various types will be established in 1950 along the Mediterranean coast at various points under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, the settlement division of the Jewish Agency and the Histadrut agricultural center, it was disclosed today.
