The Israel Foreign Office today denied a report disseminated by the American Religious News Service giving the impression that non-Jews who marry Jews must be converted to Judaism in order to remain in Israel.
“There is no basis for the report that non-Jews married to Jews must be converted in order to live in Israel,” the statement of the Foreign Office said. “Every Jew desiring to emigrate to Israel is regarded as a returning resident, according to the open door policy of the state of Israel. The applications of all others are considered on their marits, and non-Jews must qualify under the immigration ordinance. The fact is, that many non-Jews, including the partners of mixed marriages, have been admitted. Conversion is never required as a condition of admittance.”
