Complications arising from efforts of the Israel Government to reach agreement on wage and working conditions with all teachers while negotiating with two teachers’ unions threatened today to upset the agreement reached earlier this week with one of the unions.
The unions are the Histadrut-affiliated Teachers Union, which claims to represent both elementary and secondary teachers, and the Secondary School Teachers Association, which disputes that claim.
Negotiations earlier this week were understood to have broken the long-standing stalemate over demands of the Teachers Union. Finance Minister Levi Eshkol was understood to have offered the teachers substantial wage increases.
