The Foreign Affairs Committee of Israel’s Parliament decided today not to take any stand on approval of Rolf Pauls, West Germany’s nominee as its first Ambassador to Israel.

The issue was left within the Government and it was understood the decision would be left to Premier Levi Eshkol and Mrs. Golda Meir, the Foreign Minister. The Parliamentary committee acted presumably to avoid causing tension within the coalition and to avoid setting a precedent under which diplomatic appointments would be approved by that committee.

(From Bonn, it was reported that Gunther von Hase, the chief Government press spokesman, told a press conference today that West Germany had not yet received approval from Israel on the Pauls nomination.)
