Acting President Joseph Sprinzak and Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, in cables to President Truman and Secretary of State Dean Acheson on the Occasion of Independence Day, expressed the wish that the United States “may be granted the long use of their tremendous resources for the advancement of human progress” and may “enjoy peace, prosperity and happiness.”

A group of American tourists celebrated America’s Independence Day by purchasing several thousand dollars worth of Israel bonds. The purchase ceremony, in which former Congresswoman Helen Gahagan Douglas participated, heard Israel hailed as “one of the world’s youngest bastions of freedom.”
