Israel Government Invites American Sports Champion to Become Advisor on Athletics

Irving Mondschein, three-time A.A.U. National Decathlon Champion and member of the 1948 United States Olympic Team, has been invited by the Government of Israel to become an advisor to the Department of Physical Education in the Ministry of Education, it was announced here today. Mr. Mondschein is taking a leave of absence from his position as Director of Athletics at Lincoln University and is leaving shortly for Israel where he will stay for approximately a year.

The Ministry of Education has outlined a full program for Mr. Mondschein which includes training of instructors and teachers in physical education, particularly in relation to track and field athletics. A group of prominent public figures in the United States, assisted by the National Jewish Welfare Board and the American Fund for Israel Institutions, have taken an active interest in the project of assisting and furthering the healthy growth of amateur sports in Israel.
