Israel’s Ministerial Committee to make the arrangements for the forthcoming visit by Pope Paul VI held its first meeting here today, setting into motion the detailed plans for the proper reception of the Pontiff.
The committee was named by the Cabinet yesterday, and includes Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Religious Affairs and police. Teddy Kolleck, director-general of the Premier’s office, is the general coordinator for the committee. Numerous problems of protocol, security and technical arrangements were discussed by the group. Pope Paul is expected to spend about 12 hours in Israel, probably on Sunday, January 5.
A special subcommittee is expected to be set up by the Ministerial Committee to facilitate news coverage of the Pope’s visit. Already, dozens of newsmen from all over the world have made hotel reservations here. Among them is a 10-man crew from the television division of the National Broadcasting Company.
