The foreign service of Kol Israel, Israel’s government-owned radio, inaugurated a regular transmission in Swahili today, broadcasting programs in the language that is spoken by many millions of Africans. The language is the common tongue in large areas of East Africa, and millions speak it in Uganda, Kenya, Tanganyika and parts of the Congo. Only three other radio stations transmit programs in Swahili. These are located in Moscow, London and Cairo.
