The Israel Government will seek a loan in Washington from the World Bank, it was learned here today following a report that two of the highest Israeli officials are to proceed soon to Washington.
The two officials are Israel’s Finance Minister Levi Eshkol and the Governor of Israel State Bank, David Horowitz. They will participate in a meeting of the board of governors of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington in September.
The opinion was expressed here today that the two Israeli statesmen may also take up the question of the projected World Bank loan to President Nasser of the United Arab Republic for widening the Suez Canal. President Eugene Black has been pressing for approval of the loan. Israel officials reportedly feel that Nasser should not get an international loan to widen the Suez Canal which he is using to violate United Nations decisions on free passage with the blockade against Israeli shipping.
