A memorandum appealing to the Israel Government to regard the Yiddish language as having a special status in Israel and not to permit it to be identified with foreign languages was today addressed to the government and the Knesset by two leading Yiddish writers in Israel. They are David Pinsky, noted American Jewish dramatist who settled in Israel some years ago, and Abraham Sutzkower, famous poet.
(In New York, the Yiddish Writers Union, Jewish Labor Committee and World Congress for Jewish Culture endorsed the Pinsky-Sutzkower memorandum in cables to the Yiddish Writers Organization in Israel.)
