The Israel Government’s understanding of the needs of the Catholic Church in Israel and its cooperation with the church and church institutions in this country came in for praise last night when Msgr. Vergani, Catholic Church representative in Israel, addressed the Journalists Association here.
Msgr. Vergani stressed that the government had willingly repaired war damaged church structures and had paved roads leading to many Catholic shrines and institutions Msgr. Vergani denied reports that Church missionaires offered material rewards for conversion. He reported that Church schools in Israel had a total enrollment of 10,000 with 90 percent of its students coming from the Christian Arab population.
