A competition for three compositions for a folk choir on three subjects pertaining to Israel but open to composers from all parts of the world was announced here today by Hazamir, the society for the promotion of music in Israel. The text of the compositions must be in Hebrew and the contest closes December 31, 1954.
Prizes will be awarded as follows: 500 Israel pounds offered by the President of Israel for a composition on the theme of “Jerusalem”; 300 pounds offered by the Israel Ministry of Education on the theme of “The Revival of the State of Israel,” and 300 pounds offered by the Jewish Agency on the theme of “The Ingathering of the Exiles.”
