Israel has begun paying compensation to former members of a Lebanese militia. The Defense Ministry sent payouts of $2,500 each to some 600 ex-servicemen from the South Lebanon Army who fled to Israel with their families when Israeli forces withdrew from Lebanon in 2000. The total payout per family is expected to reach around $9,000 over seven years.
