Israel has formally requested the Dutch government to extradite Pieter Menten, the 79-year-old convicted Nazi war criminal, who was set free by a Dutch court last week. State Attorney Gavriel Bach returned Sunday to Israel from Holland where he expressed Israel’s concern over the decision to free Menten. The Dutch authorities reportedly promised Bach careful consideration of the Israeli request. The Dutch Labor Party will demand next week that Menten be prevented from leaving until steps to renew his trial are taken.
