Israeli forces responded to terrorist rocket attacks last night with a commando raid on a Lebanese village used as a terrorist base and a long range artillery barrage against terrorist concentrations in the Nabatiya refugee camp 20 kilometers inside Lebanon. A military spokesman said Israeli forces killed at least five terrorists in a gun battle in Tzarubin village and blew up three houses there used as an advance base for terrorist infiltrators. There were no Israeli casualties.
An Israeli woman, Rachel Zarihan, was wounded last night when three Katyusha rockets crashed into Kiryat Shemona. Two homes were damaged but there were no other casualties. The woman underwent surgery and was reported in a satisfactory condition today. Two Katyusha rockets were also fired at Safad, rattling windows but causing no damage or casualties. Two more rockets hit the agricultural settlement of Dovev near the Lebanese border, again without causing casualties or damage.
The appearance yesterday in the UN General Assembly by Palestine Liberation Organization chief Yasir Arafat sparked some unrest on the West Bank but there were no serious incidents. West Bankers responded half-heartedly to terrorist radio exhortations to stage a general strike in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Schools and shops were closed for about three hours in Nablus, the largest West Bank town’but normal activities continued elsewhere. In Nablus, however, students sent home from their classes, congregated in the main square waving flags and shouting such slogans as “Arafat we are with you” and “Jews get out.”
