More than 100,000 new immigrants came to Israel in the last 12 months, the Jewish Agency immigration department announced today, revealing that more immigrants will arrive next month than in April.
The increase will be contributed mostly by Jews from Iran, North Africa and Rumania, although more will be coming from the Western countries, particularly from the United States. The Agency is making special efforts to provide suitable housing for technicians and specialists who migrate to Israel.
Since last May, 54 new settlements have been established and an additional 1,000,000 dunams (250,000 acres) of land have been brought under cultivation. One hundred and fifty new industrial plants have been opened and 40,000 workers employed in them, 37,000 new dwellings were constructed, and 420 new schools and 1,800 new hospital beds were made available.
