The need for Israel and the Jewish people to face “with dignity” the attacks on them, particularly when the truth is being distorted by the Arab countries in their effort to destroy Israel, at least politically, was stressed at a Yom Haatzmaut celebration by Michael T. Michael, Israel’s Ambassador to Peru.
Another guest speaker at the event, sponsored by Lima’s small Jewish community, was Dr. Jorge Basadre, a historian whose name has been inscribed in the Golden Book of the Jewish National Fund in Jerusalem. Another participant was Bustamante Y. Rivero, former President of Peru and former chairman of the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
The week-long observance of Israel’s 28th birthday began on May 4 and ended with a meeting addressed by Michael.
