The Israel Government today extended invitations to nine of the eleven member nations comprising the United Nations Trusteeship Council to send representatives to Jerusalem to learn of the “physical impossibility” of implementing the Jerusalem statute adopted by the Council yesterday in Geneva.
The invitations were delivered to the nine nations’ diplomatic representatives here. Neither China nor Iraq maintains a diplomatic representation in this city and they did not receive invitations. It is understood that the bid states that a “direct, personal survey of the true prevailing conditions in Jerusalam will convey the impracticality of enforcing internationalization.”
Meanwhile, Glaude de Boisanger, French member of the U.N. Palestine Conciliation Commission, arrived in Jerusalem today with an aide. He travelled from Athens via Kollandia, the Trans jordan-held airport nearest Jerusalem, and then made his way to the new city from the Arab Legion-held area. He is due to arrive in Tel Aviv tomorrow for talks with members of the government prior to visiting various Arab capitals in the latest Commission mediation move.
Hador, local pro-government evening newspaper, tonight expressed doubts as to the value of de Boisanger’s visit with members of the government. It said that the Conciliation Commission had outlived its usefulness.
